2012 Barksdale AFB Air Show
An F-4 Phantom taxis down the flightline after performing with a P-47 Thunderbolt for more than 25,000 spectators during the 2012 Barksdale Air Force Base Defenders of Liberty Air Show April 22. First flown in May 1958, the F-4 is a twin engine, all weather, tactical fighter-bomber which was originally developed for U.S. Navy fleet defense. The Phantom was the first multi-service aircraft, and was flown concurrently by the U.S. Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps. The F-4, which played a vital role in Desert Storm, served actively for national defense until it was retired in 1996. (U.S. Air Force photo/Senior Airman La'Shanette V. Garrett) (RELEASED)
