The 2nd Bomb Wing was recently awarded with the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award for exceptional meritorious service during 2014.

The AFOUA is presented to numbered units who have distinguished themselves through meritorious service and outstanding achievements.

“This award is a testament to the hard work, dedication and professionalism demonstrated by our great Airmen,” said Col. Kristin E. Goodwin, 2nd BW commander. “It acknowledges a determined pursuit of excellence and highlights the innovative warriors of Barksdale who are making a difference every day.”

The members of the 2nd BW reflected great credit upon Barksdale and the Air Force with their countless distinctive accomplishments.

The wing completed more than 7,000 flying hours and more than 1,100 sorties during 2014, demonstrating the B-52 Stratofortress' capabilities and showcasing the expeditionary combat expertise of Barksdale warriors. These achievements represented the seamless execution of a multi-million dollar budget, pushing the wing to execute 38 higher headquarter-directed priority missions worldwide.

The 2nd BW also deployed 327 Airmen in support of two U.S. Pacific Command Continuous Bomber Presence rotations where they launched 232 sorties, and flew more than 1,400 hours.

Furthermore, for the first time in over a decade the wing deployed to Royal Air Force Fairford, England, in support of Air Force Global Strike Command’s Bomber Assurance and Deterrence Mission in U.S. European Command, flying 31 sorties over more than 250 flight hours with 238 Airmen.

“Being part of the 2nd BW and deploying in support of the Continuous Bomber Presence has been momentous,” said Staff Sgt. Scott Foss, 2nd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron resource advisor. "Every Airman does amazing work here. Being recognized with this prestigious award is humbling and it's an honor to be part of such an excellent unit."
