Relocating is part of being in the military, the Housing Management Office is designed to help Airmen and their families transition to their new homes with ease.

Whether it’s moving on base, moving to another installation, or signing a lease to a new house, HMO can help every step of the way.

“Our job is to advocate for service members to their landlords both on and off base,” said Lisa Kallio, 2nd Civil Engineer Squadron housing chief. “We do everything from reviewing your lease to ensuring your landlord is handling maintenance tickets in a timely manner.”

Many people don’t utilize the HMO, however, it's actually mandatory to visit their office when in-processing.

“It’s a [Department of Defense instruction] to have a housing management office on every base,” Kallio continued. “It's also required to visit us or at least be in contact with the HMO office when you [permanent change of station] somewhere.

HMO is a highly trained office designed to help service members with the following:

  • Offer complete referral services and relocation assistance
  • Help members understand lease agreements
  • Provide local community housing information
  • Guidance on personal property insurance
  • Assist with off base landlord dispute resolution
  • Assist with disputes with privatized housing

“If a service member feels they are not getting appropriate services from their landlord (both on and off base) after reporting maintenance issues and trying to resolve at the lowest level, engaging our office to intervene and track to resolutions should alleviate the stress from the service member,” Kallio said. “We intervene on their behalf to take some stress off their back so they can focus on the mission.”
