Runners take to flightline during annual community race

Nearly 300 runners took flight at Barksdale Air Force Base, La., Sept. 19, for the 2015 Half Marathon and 5K hosted by the 2nd Force Support Squadron.

The event was open to the public, so local running enthusiasts and hobbyists joined service members and their families for the events.

Participants included runners aged 9-69, as well as kids on bikes and others towed in strollers and wagons. Taking top positions in the 5K were: (male 1st and 2nd) Matt Catha, 19:58, and Brandon Parker, 20:16, and (female 1st and 2nd) Alexandra Garcia, 23:51, and Melissa Garcia, 24:09. The half marathon open category winners were: (male 1st and 2nd) Alex Ludwig, 1:30:54, and Kelvin Harrison, 1:31:01, and (female 1st and 2nd) Tomi Swaim, 1:41:09, and Nichole Nuccio, 1:44:47.
