Barksdale celebrates new SNCOs

BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. --  Barksdale's newest master sergeant selects attended a promotion party at the Stripes Club here May 17. Each year after promotion selection results are released, a promotion party for the technical sergeants who were selected for the grade is held.

The Air Force selected 5,464 of 19,809 eligible technical sergeants for promotion to master sergeant this cycle. Of those selected, 106 were Team Barksdale members.

"It's still sinking in," said Tech. Sgt. James Drake, 2nd Maintenance Group resource advisor. "I put on tech relatively early and I thought becoming a master sergeant would take more time, but now that it's here, I still can't believe it."

The average score for this year's test was 308.7 with an average of 3.61 years time-in-grade and 15.09 years time-in-service. These averages were compiled from the following point averages: 133.01 for enlisted performance reports, 9.38 for decorations, 53.49 for the specialty knowledge test in each career field and 59.82 for the promotion fitness exam.

The promotion list was released May 17 on the Air Force Personnel Center's website and Airmen can view their scores on the Virtual Military Personnel Flight site on the Air Force Portal.

Selections are tentative until a data verification process is complete. This will occur no later than 10 days after the promotion release date.
