The goal of the Honorary Commander Program is to build and maintain a strong and lasting bond between Barksdale Air Force Base and surrounding communities, while exposing community leaders to the mission of the 2nd Bomb Wing and the important role of today’s military.
The Honorary Commanders Program serves as an opportunity to educate key community leaders about the innovative missions of Barksdale Air Force Base, foster a supportive relationship with the community, increase military involvement in civic endeavors and organizations, and demonstrate connection the community and the base share.
Honorary commanders, go through a nomination process coordinated through the Public Affairs Office.
Once approved and inducted, honorees are paired with a Barksdale Air Force Base commander. The military commanders immerse their honorary commanders in the unit’s mission, structure and programs, and invite them to take part in quarterly activities and other events on base allowing the honorary commander to observe their duties and the mission.
Honorary commanders are encouraged to invite their Barksdale counterparts to similar functions within their organizations and to learn about their professions.
Honorary Commanders serve in two-year terms that aim to build bonds with the surrounding community and the patrons of Barksdale.
Honorary commanders serve a two year term. At the end of the two years, our goal is to have forged mutually beneficial relationships between the base and influential leaders in the community.
After serving as our ambassadors as well as our eyes and ears in the community, and be open and willing to discuss issues of mutual importance in the years to come.
