  • Barksdale Provides Shelter for Evacuated Airmen, Aircraft

    The hurricane season is in full swing yet again. For the third consecutive year, Team Barksdale provided refuge to Airmen and aircraft seeking shelter from Hurricane Irma. More than 100 personnel accompanied over 70 aircraft, such as the F-16 Fighting Falcon from Shaw Air Force Base, S.C., the C-17 Globemaster III from Joint-Base Charleston, S.C., and the T-1 Jayhawk from Naval Air Station Pensacola, Fla., arrived here between Sept. 8-10, 2017 during a hurricane evacuation.

    Team Barksdale’s new mobile application brings a wealth of information available at the touch of a screen. The app is now available for Apple and Android devices and it provides a one-stop shop for all things Barksdale. This includes base-related news, a phone directory and upcoming local events.
  • Air Traffic Controllers Put to the Test for Hurricane Evacuation

    Team Barksdale welcomed over 70 aircraft, and more than 180 personnel, during the 2017 hurricane evacuation Sept. 8-10, 2017. Bases along the East Coast in Hurricane Irma's projected path, took proactive measures evacuating their aircraft to Barksdale staying ahead of the storm.
  • Barksdale set to celebrate 70th Air Force Birthday

    The United States Air Force will commemorate more than seven decades of air power when it turns 70 years old Sept. 18. Team Barksdale will celebrate this milestone with an Air Force Birthday Ball, scheduled to take place Sept. 16 at 5 p.m. at the Shreveport Convention Center.

    The 2nd Force Support Squadron hosted a Back to School Night at the BUFF Event Center at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana, July 24, 2017. Military families can now choose which school to send their children to with the School of Choice initiative, giving Barksdale residents more options when deciding which type of education best fits the needs of their children.
  • Civil Engineer Squadron Fixes Flightline

    Barksdale Air Force Base has had the same airfield concrete for over 35 years, but concrete does not last forever. It starts to deteriorate with water flow and heavy weight, two things Barksdale has in abundance. Louisiana faces heavy seasonal rains and one B-52 Stratofortress can weighs anywhere between 185,000 and 488,000 pounds as it taxis down the flightline.
  • Hunt Housing Improves Quality of Life with Renovations

    Barksdale AFB Family Housing began a $2.2 million dollar project to renovate the homes and neighborhood amenities for base residents earlier this year to improve the services provided, as well as the quality of life for the base community.

  • All-female air crews honor Women’s History month

    For the first time in Air Force history, two all-female crews of B-52 Stratofortress aviators from the 2nd Bomb Wing flew training missions from Barksdale Air Force Base, La., March 22.
  • 2nd BW brings home Air Force Outstanding Unit Award

    The 2nd Bomb Wing was recently awarded with the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award for exceptional meritorious service during 2014.
