Managing a Hurricane Evacuation

Bombers, fighters and refuelers filled the flight line as they seek refuge from force of nature named Hurricane Florence. After the all-clear from their home bases, they departed just as organized as they arrived.

A fuels family

With a large tube not easily moved from the back of the truck into a manhole in the flight line, aviation fuel is pushed out from the underground piping system beneath the base, into the truck and then into the fuel tank of the aircraft.

Barksdale supports HUREVAC

For the fourth consecutive year, Team Barksdale provided refuge to Airmen and aircraft seeking shelter from potential hurricane damage. More than 200 personnel and 60 aircraft, including KC-135 Stratotankers and F-15E Strike Eagles, from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, North Carolina, arrived here from Sept. 11-12, 2018.

2nd EOD works hard, wins first place

The 2nd Explosive Ordinance Disposal team won the first ever Air Force Global Strike Command EOD Team of the Year competition at Ellsworth Air Force Base, N.D., Aug. 17, 2018. Seven teams consisting of three Airmen represented bases across AFGSC. These teams completed 10 different events during the competition, including running dismount missions, rendering safe improvised-explosive devices and rendering safe both U.S. and foreign chemical munitions.

Four Airmen from the 2nd Force Support Squadron dining facility recently trained with professional chefs at Boomtown Casino and Hotel, in Bossier City, La. The four-week partnership program, focused specifically on furthering skills learned during Air Force technical school.

2nd SFS Airman to coach AFGSC DC18 team

The Air Force Defender Challenge is making a comeback after a 14-year hiatus. The return is scheduled to run Sept. 10 - 14, 2018. This year, Air Force Global Strike Command’s team will be coached by Barksdale’s own Tech. Sgt. Krystoffer Miller, 2nd Security Forces Squadron future operations NCO in-charge.

FSS fuel Airmen

It’s a place not often thought of as a cornerstone of a well-built, effective military. It’s a place where comradery is bolstered, bonds are formed and the weary are given respite. This place is the dining facility (DFAC). The Barksdale Air Force Base Red River Dining Facility is run by the 2nd Force Support Squadron, who are tasked with providing for several aspects of Airmen’s health and well-being, including food, fitness, lodging and mortuary services.
