    2nd BW Airmen step up to help commissary workers

    It’s an Air Force core value to place service before self and at Barksdale you don’t have to look very far to see that value in action. In the wake of Barksdale’s public health emergency, Airmen from the 2nd Bomb Wing have stepped up to assist commissary workers in efforts to keep the store stocked and sanitized.

    Barksdale’s crew chiefs keep the birds in the sky

    It’s not pixie dust that turns 185,000 lbs. of machinery into a lethal, combat-ready B-52H Stratofortress prepared to fly at a moments notice, no, it’s a crew chief. With the task of keeping B-52’s in tip-top shape, it’s the responsibility of Barksdale’s crew chiefs to coordinate all necessary maintenance in order to keep the aircraft in war fighting form.

    Striking the enemy: WSO’s train to fight

    B-52’s and bombs, the two are synonymous when it comes to Barksdale’s global strike capabilities, but what often goes unrecognized, are the men and women inside the plane who actually employ those weapons. Without the skilled Airmen who earn the title of weapons system officer, the lethal B-52H Stratofortress ceases to have its deadly capabilities.

    NBA HOF’er Karl Malone visits Barksdale

    NBA Hall of Famer and Louisiana native, Karl Malone, toured Barksdale during a visit to the base Feb. 5-6, 2020. A two time NBA MVP, 14-time NBA all-star and second ranked all time point scorer, Malone spent time with Airmen, toured facilities and even took a ride in a B-52H Stratofortress.

    History in the making: final CALCM missile package retired

    The sun has set on an integral component of the United States long-range strategic bombing capabilities as the final Conventional Air-Launched Cruise Missile (CALCM) package was downloaded and disassembled at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana, Nov. 20, 2019. Initially beginning design in 1974, the CALCM missile has been employed in combat operations to include Desert Storm, Desert Strike, Desert Fox, Allied Force, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. Decades later, the final missile package was disassembled to become demilitarized.

    Once an Airman, always an Airman: retired B-52 crew chief reunites with aircraft

    When an Airman takes off their uniform for the final time, the values, experiences and memories don’t just disappear, they are imbedded within them for life. Those memories were entirely evident in the eyes of retired Staff Sgt. Mark James, former Barksdale B-52H Stratofortress crew chief, who was reunited with his former aircraft during a visit to the base.

    BTF 20-1 concludes at Fairford

    After four weeks of continuous bomber presence in England, Bomber Task Force Europe 20-1 has finally concluded. Over 300 Airmen and four B-52H Stratofortress aircraft have completed their mission and are returning home to Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana.

    Bruner family embraces new life

    It was more than five years ago when a family took their son in for a normal check up, however, their world changed when the doctor pieced together all of his observations and broke the news of a life changing diagnosis.
