A development to enhance Force Protection measures here is slated to begin Sept. 24, 2018.

The project, which will be completed at west gate, is estimated to last until Oct. 12.  The construction team will be updating base security by installing removable bollards.

“The new set up is designed to slow down inbound traffic,” said Maj. Lidia Iyassu, 2nd Security Forces Squadron commander. “Slowing down this flow allows for more time to deploy the pop-up barrier when needed. That extra time can make a world of difference in an emergency situation.”

This process is expected to cause consistent lane closures throughout the slated time frame. Inbound traffic will be cut down to one lane and will alternate as needed. There is no expected impact for outbound traffic and base patrons are asked to be aware of their surroundings.

“We ask that everyone stay cautious and patient during this time as the construction is being done with the safety and security of Barksdale personnel in mind,” Iyassu said. “We want to do everything we can to protect our people and mission and that is exactly what we are doing.”
