  • Air Force leadership conducts privatized housing tour at Barksdale

    The Honorable John W. Henderson, Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Installations, Environment and Energy, and Gen. Arnold W. Bunch Jr., Air Force Materiel Command commander, visited Barksdale Jan. 6, 2020 to conduct a privatized housing tour. The tour familiarized the leaders with the current condition of privatized base housing here, aligning with current Air Force efforts to improve the Military Housing Privatization Initiative Program for the service.
  • Bomber Task Force 20-1 Completes Mission in Europe

    On the evening of the October 10, 2019, four B-52 Stratofortress strategic bombers from the 2nd Bomb Wing departed Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana, enroute to a month-long deployment at RAF Fairford, England. While based at RAF Fairford, the bombers, air crew, maintainers and support personnel conducted integration and interoperability training with European allies and partners in the region.
  • 96th AMU maintainers provide mission success to BTF 20-1

    The U.S. Air Force B-52H Stratofortress has been in service since the 1950’s and is still a major player in the mission of deterrence to our adversaries. The maintainers of the 2nd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, 96th Aircraft Maintenance Unit, deployed out of Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana, traveled to RAF Fairford, England, to ensure the success of Bomber Task Force Europe 20-1.
  • Getting down and dirty

    It’s after four in the afternoon and Airmen from the 2nd Civil Engineer Squadron Pavements and Heavy Equipment Flight are returning to their building after a long day working around the base. Their shirts are stained with sweat and their boots are covered in dirt after. As they begin to pack their equipment and head home to clean up, they know they will be back tomorrow and work another long day. The “Dirt Boyz” are responsible for maintaining the base by keeping the airfield, sidewalks and roads in usable condition at Barksdale Air Force Base.

    Every year as the weather warms up, people get in the cleaning mode. Garages and attics are emptied to make room for new items and since the base containers are in the way to work, some people use them to dump their unwanted items.
  • 2019 BTF comes to an end

    More than 450 personnel and six B-52 Stratofortresses from Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana, returned home following a short-term deployment to RAF Fairford, England, in support of U.S. Strategic Command’s Bomber Task Force in Europe, April 11, 2019. The BTF deployment enabled theater integration and training with joint partners, allied nations and other U.S. Air Force units, to further enhance bomber interoperability in the theater.
  • Munitions Airmen pay it forward

    A U.S. Strategic Command Bomber Task Force in Europe has been operating out of RAF Fairford for almost a month now, enabling a joint training opportunity for Barksdale Air Force Base, La., Airmen.
