The 2nd Bomb Wing flight safety team will be conducting Bird and Animal Strike Hazard operations on Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana, July 16 -20.

The purpose of the BASH operation is to deter vultures from causing a safety hazard on the base flight line. The hours in which this operation will occur are 6:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.

Barksdale’s flight safety team will be using pyrotechnic screamers as part of the operation. Screamers, which are similar to fireworks, make a loud whistling noise in the air that scare away vultures from the area.

Vultures pose a safety hazard to ingoing and outgoing aircraft and are destructive to base property.
