BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. -- The 2nd Bomb Wing inducted nine honorary commanders during a ceremony Sept. 29, 2017 at Barksdale Air Force Base, La.
The Honorary Commander program helps increase public understanding of the base, its mission and its Airmen thereby strengthening the relationship between Barksdale and the Shreveport and Bossier City communities.
The program is now accepting nominations for the next round of honorary commander inductions.
“Our mission requires trained and ready Airmen and their readiness is largely dependent on support from this great community." said 2nd Bomb Wing Commander Col. Ty Neuman. “The Honorary Commander program is one more way we can bring Airmen and the community together to build an even stronger relationship between the two.”
The Honorary Commander program partners Barksdale unit commanders with local community leaders. The program encourages an exchange of ideas, experiences and knowledge. During their two-year tenure, honorary commanders will spend time with their associated unit learning about the base’s mission and the work Airmen do to defend the nation. The program also better connects Airmen to the local community.
Civilian participants will be selected from among non-federal elected or appointed officials, mayors, chamber of commerce-type group members, principals of local schools, Military Affairs Committee members and others who, because of their position or influence in the community, can positively impact public support for the base.
If you are interested or know someone who would serve well as an honorary commander, please submit a nomination no later than November 10. Please send all submissions to Barksdale Public Affairs at 2BW.PA@us.af.mil.
