BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. -- The Colombian air force is sending four A-29 Super Tucanos and 45 personnel to participate in Green Flag East set to take place 15-29 August 2016 at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana.
Green Flag East is one of the U.S. Air Force’s premier close-air-support exercises in which Colombian pilots hone CAS skills while exercising interoperability with U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army forces.
Green Flag East allows pilots to train in a simulated, high-threat environment, affords maintenance and support personnel an increased tempo in generating fully mission-capable combat aircraft, and enables Soldiers and Airmen to refine critical skills for calling in close air support.
This is the first time since Germany in 2011 that a partner air force has participated in Green Flag East in order to enhance interoperability between international partners.
Other participating units include A-10Cs from the 23rd Wing at Moody Air Force Base, Georgia; aircrew from the 355th Fighter Wing at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona; joint terminal attack controllers from the 14th Air Support Operations Squadron; and U.S. Army forces at nearby Fort Polk, Louisiana.
Media is invited to cover Green Flag East on Monday, Aug. 22 starting at 8:00 a.m. Media wishing to cover Green Flag East is requested to RSVP to the 2nd Bomb Wing Public Affairs at 318-456-1015 or 2bw.pa@us.af.mil by 3:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 19.
