In recognition of exceptionally meritorious service, the 2nd Bomb Wing has been awarded the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award for the period of 1 January 2014-31 December 2014.

The AFOUA is awarded by the secretary of the Air Force to numbered units that have distinguished themselves by exceptionally meritorious service or outstanding achievement that clearly sets the unit above and apart from similar units.

“This award is a testament to the hard work, dedication and professionalism demonstrated by our great Airmen,” said Col. Kristin E. Goodwin, 2nd BW commander. “It acknowledges their determined pursuit of excellence and highlights the innovative warriors of Barksdale who are making a positive difference every day.”

During this period, the 2nd BW fulfilled 7,085 flying hours and completed 1,109 sorties providing devastating B-52 capability and unmatched expeditionary combat Airmen. These extraordinary efforts highlighted the 2nd BWs dynamic, global mission and enabled the Wing to execute 38 higher headquarter directed missions.

While impeccably balancing the mission at Barksdale Air Force Base, the 2nd BW deployed 327 Airmen in support of two U.S. Pacific Command Continuous Bomber Presence rotations where they launched 232 sorties and flew over 1,400 hours. The 2d Bomb Wing also deployed to Royal Air Force Fairford for the first time in 11 years, along with the B-2s in support of Air Force Global Strike Command’s Bomber Assurance and Deterrence mission in U.S. European Command. The deployment consisted of 31 sorties, over 253 flight hours with 238 Airmen.
