BARKSDALE EOD AIRMAN KILLED IN AFGHANISTAN

An Airman from the 2nd Civil Engineer Squadron here was killed Jan. 5 while deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Senior Airman Bryan Bell, a member of 2 CES Explosive Ordnance Disposal, died following an improvised explosive device attack in Shir ghazi, Helmand province, Afghanistan, according to a Department of Defense release today.

Bell, 23, from Erie, Pa., was assigned to Delta Company, 466th Explosive Ordnance Disposal in Afghanistan and had been deployed there since October 2011. He arrived at Barksdale in May of 2008 and had been in the Air Force for nearly five years.

A memorial service is being planned by base officials. More details will be released as they become available.
