Successful end to Constant Vigilance 14
Using cartridge-start launch procedures, a B-52H Stratofortress prepares for a quick launch as part of a Constant Vigilance minimum interval takeoff exercise at Barksdale Air Force Base, La., May 19, 2014. During MITO events, starter cartridges filled with gunpowder are used to quickly fire up the bomber’s engines, allowing aircrews to get the aircraft airborne quickly. The launch procedure allows strategic bomber forces to respond as rapidly as possible when called upon. (U.S. Air Force photo/Senior Airman Joseph A. Pagán Jr.)
