Barksdale and Shreveport firefighters
BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. – Shreveport firefighters move in to extinguish a fire during their annual joint - live fire training here April 7. Firefighters wear proximity firefighting gear since there is no training gear for this purpose. The special aluminized cover and barrier help reflect some heat away from the firefighters while the self – contained breathing apparatus allows them to breathe clean air for approximately 40 minutes in working conditions. The proper wear is imperative to their safety and survival, since the entry into the training aircraft exposes them to temperatures reaching 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit.
