2d Medical Group Change of Command
BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. – Col. Steven L. Basham (left), 2d Bomb Wing commander, presents the unit guidon to Col. Paul M. Fortunato July 7. Colonel Fortunato assumed command of the 2d Medical Group from Col. Thomas W. Grace. The passing of command is one deeply rooted in military tradition, dating back to the Norman Conquest of England. It serves as a visible means of handing the reins of command to the new commander. As the unit flag or guidon is exchanged, it represents the responsibility associated with the unit being surrendered and accepted. (U.S. Air Force photo by Senior Airman La’Shanette V. Garrett) (RELEASED)
