2nd MDG extends hours for sports, school physicals Published Aug. 17, 2016 By Senior Airman Luke Hill 2nd Bomb Wing Public Affairs BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. -- The 2nd Medical Group kept its doors open beyond regular duty hours on Aug. 4th and 13th, enabling parents to get sports and school physicals for their children.School physicals are not only a requirement, but are also a convenient way to keep up with your child’s health."The two sports physical days that we held were a success and our team was able to accomplish 173 physicals during these times," said 1st Lt. Alicia Gebele, 2nd MDG group practice manager.Parents who used this opportunity to get their children’s physical fulfilled the mandatory requirement for youth and sports programs on base. Now, parents can enjoy watching their children participate in sports knowing they’re in good health and medically cleared to participate. The 2nd MDG worked during off-duty hours to provide a convenient time for parents, and ensure sports physicals didn’t interfere with patients who need medical treatment during regular business hours. "By performing the physicals during off duty hours, we were able to free up appointments that would have been used during the normal duty day,” said Gebele. “One-hundred and seventy-three extra appointments will greatly increase our access and allow other patients to fill these slots."The medical group has a critical mission, and virtually everyone needs treatment at one time or another. Whether its vaccinations, treatment for skin ailments, allergies or even the common cold, Barksdale’s clinic takes care of it. The 2nd MDG group hosts sports and school physicals every year so parents can expect to have this opportunity in the future.“We’d like to thank all those who participated and made getting these physicals completed a success,” concluded Gebele.
