2nd MDG makes back-to-school physicals quick and easy Published Aug. 3, 2016 By By Senior Airman Luke Hill 2nd Bomb Wing Public Affairs BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. -- BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. – Do you have children enrolling in sports or school this fall in need of a physical? Have you just moved to Barksdale and are unsure when and how to get it done? The 2nd Medical Group has blocked out two time slots so that parents can get school and sports physicals for their children done quickly and efficiently. The 2nd MDG will be providing physicals on August 4, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on August 13, from 10 a.m. to noon for children ages 4 to 18 years old. The Physical consists of several basic health checks and is a good way to keep up with a child’s health. “We check height and weight as well as, blood pressure, vision and hearing” said 1st Lt. Alicia Gebele, 2nd MDG group practice manager. “Additionally, Participants will also be seen by a doctor for a quick assessment of overall health.” Physicals are also required for sports and education on Barksdale and is often required for most local public schools and sports. Also, people who have just transferred to Barksdale from out of state will need to get physicals for their children. “We are at the end of a big PCS season and most of the families moving are going to need a school physical for their children before school starts,” said Tech Sgt. Thomas Gould, 2nd MDG family health office manager. “We are providing a convenient time for parents to bring in their children after work and knock it out of the way.” The 2nd MDG is only blocking off these two timeslots for people to come in after business hours. Capitalizing on these opportunities will allow participants to get their physical without competing with daily patients at the 2nd MDG and it also frees up more time for the 2nd MDG to do their mission so that Barksdale stays healthy. “We encourage people to take advantage of this opportunity now,” said Gould. “This will be the quickest and most efficient way to get it done. Although we can still give a school physical anytime, it will be a much longer process if patients choose to wait.” For more information, contact the Medical Group at 456-6555
