Part of an unending flow of documents and mission-essential equipment arrived at the 2nd Logistics Readiness Squadron Traffic Management Flight on Barksdale Air Force Base, Jan. 29.

Upon arrival, 2nd LRS Airmen had only 24 hours to process the packages and send them off.

“Nothing stays,” said Senior Airman Megan Bright, 2nd LRS traffic management journeyman. “Everything must go out the same day. If we don’t process things correctly or we are late on shipments, then the mission doesn’t happen and our planes don’t get into the air.”

To ensure all packages are processed and shipped out promptly and efficiently, traffic management Airmen divide and conquer as they battle against their deadline.

“We make an assembly line,” said Airman Tayona Lambert, 2nd LRS traffic management apprentice. “We will have two people signing for packages, two people inspecting packages, and Airmen also creating a shipping plan for the packages.”

During this process, Airmen must rely on each other and work together as a team to accomplish the mission.

“Teamwork makes the dream work and we have to work proficiently together to ensure all these packages are sent out in time,” said Bright.

While time is of the essence, traffic management Airmen must still ensure that nothing gets misplaced or damaged during the process.

“A lot of the parts we receive are aircraft parts which are going overseas to places like Guam and Korea,” said Lambert. “You never know what each part may be used for, and if it’s damaged or missing, it could be detrimental to the mission.”

According to Bright, packages and parts with different uses come through Barksdale’s traffic management flight and are sent to different bases all over the world.

Thankfully, the well-oiled machine keeps these essential packages, and the 2nd Bomb Wing’s mission, moving.
