Chief Master Sgt. Brian Hornback, Air Force Global Strike Command command chief, culminated almost three decades of military service by visiting units across the 2nd Bomb Wing, Jan. 7-8.

During the tour, he met with Airmen about what each of their respective units is responsible for and shared insights that he learned during his career.

Hornback summed up his Air Force career in one word, "WOW!"

"It took me a while to learn what I have, and one of those things was to be able to say yes again to get to wow," said Hornback. "When you join the Air Force, you say yes, but you have no idea what is on the other side. You go willingly, utter 72 words and then it's like wow."

Airmen are a big part of why the Air Force is successful. They are the motivating factor behind that, said Hornback.

"You try to look for motivation to put your uniform on and Airmen have done that for me since I became a chief," said Hornback. "What we ask of them today is far more then what asked in the past."

Hornback went on to explain how attitude plays a big factor in your career; both military and civilian.

"The advice you would give yourself is the best advice you can receive," said Hornback. "You have to really stop and think about what you can control and that is your attitude. You're attitude will determine your altitude, both in your military and civilian life."

One message Hornback would like to leave to Airmen both today and those in the future is to control what you control.

"Once you raise your hand, you don't control where the Air Force sends you, you just control what you make of where they send you," said Hornback. "If control of that attitude is positive, then you hit that wow factor I spoke about. If you do this, you will never have a bad assignment or a bad day. When you wake up, you are the only one that determines what kind of day you will have."

As Hornback's days draw to an end, he expressed his gratitude towards AFGSC and the Might Deuce.

"To the Airmen of AFGSC and the Mighty Deuce, it's your career; choose the wow in it," he said. "Thank you for everything you have done and continue to do for our national security and for what you have done for my family. As I have been traveling all over this command, you have taken care of them."

"When you look back on your career, I hope you're at a loss for words like I am," concluded Hornback.
