Gifted and Talented Showcase deadline approaching Published Jan. 8, 2015 By Staff Sergeant Katherine Holt 2nd Bomb Wing Public Affairs BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. -- For the third year, the Airman and Family Readiness Center is hosting the Gifted and Talented Competition, and the deadline for submission is set for March 3. Team Barksdale children ages 3-18 are eligible to compete in visual arts, photography, literature, film production and dance choreography all inspired by this year's theme, "Becoming a better me in 2015." "We are exploring talent that's out there," said Sabrina Evans, school liaison officer. "We are aiming to teach children the power of submitting their work, integrity and values." Only one entry per student per category will be accepted, and each entry must be the original work of one student only. "Parents should have limited participation with submissions," said Evans. "We want children to explore their own talent and possibly bring out some things they may be holding in." All entries must be submitted to the Information and Referral Desk of the A&FRC during the week of Feb. 23-27. All submissions must be in by 4 p.m., March 3. Entries will be judged primarily on how well the student illustrates the theme in their work. Parents of students may not contact the judges to dispute the status of an entry. All decisions are final. All winners will be announced during the Gifted and Talented Showcase, March 21 at Hoban Hall here. A health and wellness fair will be held in conjunction with the showcase, and talent from the local community will also be represented there. "We want to bring parents together to network, and provide them with access to new resources," Evans said. Evans encourages all Team Barksdale children to submit. "Make your submissions. You never know what can happen." For questions regarding deadlines or rules contact Sabrina Evans at 318-456-8400.
