IG inspections aim to improve quality of life in workplace Published Jan. 15, 2015 By Senior Airman Benjamin Raughton 2nd Bomb Wing Public Affairs BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. - -- The 2nd Logistics Readiness Squadron underwent an Inspector General inspection this week to maintain operations at maximum efficiency and better the quality of life in the 2nd LRS workplace. Inspectors, who worked with the 2nd Bomb Wing IG during the inspection, speak with Airmen and their leadership to determine how the squadron is operating and how their processes can be improved in accordance with Air Force regulations. "We'll go review their [Air Force Instructions] and ask questions, sometimes from their [Management Internal Control Toolset] checklists, their own self-inspection checklists and also from topics directed from the 2nd LRS commander himself," said Maj. Matthew Gross, 2nd BW medical logistics officer. "We're helping the commander assess his organization both from an outside perspective and on the inside by talking with the individuals themselves and the feedback they provide." Gross considers the inspections a two-pronged approach to validate what happens at the base level, since Air Force Global Strike Command has its own team of inspectors. Lt. Col. Chuck Bailey, 2nd BW IG, uses what he learns from inspections to see how other squadrons can benefit. "We want to take the good that we find in LRS and make it available to the other squadron commanders," he said. "For example, everybody does physical fitness, so if there's a squadron that has an extremely good physical fitness program... and people are healthy and doing well in their PT tests, we'll try to... give it out to all the squadron commanders so everybody can benefit." After the IG team examines the inspection results, their report to wing leadership reveals where manpower, resources, time and effort can be given focus. By allocating resources where they're needed most and improving processes, 2nd BW IG hopes Airmen's quality of life on the job will continue to improve.
