AFAF 2015 kicks off March 23 Published March 18, 2015 By Senior Airman Benjamin Raughton 2nd Bomb Wing Public Affairs BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. -- The 2015 Air Force Assistance Fund kicks off March 23 to provide Airmen with financial assistance. The AFAF is raises funds for charitable affiliates that provides support in an emergency, with educational needs or a secure retirement home for widows or widowers of Airmen. "Our goal is to raise $75,000 this year," said Master Sgt. Priscilla Lopez-Lucas, 2nd Operations Support Squadron installation program officer. "The money will provide interest-free loans in times of need through the agencies that fall under the AFAF." The AFAF is comprised of: · Air Force Aid Society: The Air Force Aid Society offers interest-free loans to service members when living and emergency expenses become overwhelming. · Air Force Villages Charitable Foundation: The Air Force Village was established in 1970 as a retirement community for Air Force officers' spouses who need financial assistance. · Air Force Enlisted Village: The Air Force Enlisted Village has served as a haven for more than 1,500 surviving spouses since 1975. · General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation: The LeMay Foundation helps widows of all Air Force retirees, both officer and enlisted, by granting financial assistance. "Our goal is to make 100 percent contact with all Airmen base-wide and deployed," said Lopez-Lucas. "My main goal is to educate Airmen. I want all Airmen to know there are resources available to them in times of need.
