Registration opens for Barksdale Half-Marathon, 5K Published July 29, 2015 By Senior Airman Joseph Raatz 2nd Bomb Wing Public Affairs BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. -- Registration is now open for the 2015 Barksdale Half-Marathon and 5K. The annual race, set for Sept. 19, costs $50 for the half-marathon and $30 for the 5K, and is open to the public. Early sign-up is available and will save entrants $5. Additionally, the first 100 single Airmen who register qualify for discounted pricing of $25 for the half-marathon and $5 for the 5K. "We encourage everyone to sign up early," said Caitlin Cook, 2nd Force Support Squadron Outdoor Recreation events manager and this year's race coordinator. "Not only does it save them money, it helps us identify how many people to expect." During the 13.1 mile race, participants will wind their way through Barksdale's historic housing and also run on the flightline. "Having the course go through housing and around main base will provide more attractive scenery than just making the runners circle the flightline a few times," Cook said. Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female overall finishers and runner-up, as well as to the first-place finisher in each of several age groups. All finishers will receive a celebratory medal and post-race refreshments will be provided. Free on-base parking will be available on race-day. Off-base residents will enter through the north gate, where security forces will direct them to the parking area, Cook explained. "We're looking forward to having everyone out. It's going to be a great year." Early registration ends July 31. Register online at http://www.eventbrite.com/e/barksdale-half-marathon-5k-tickets-17520591561?aff=es2. Single Airmen must register at equipment rental to qualify for the extra discount.
