The 2nd Medical Group is offering sports physicals to registered dependents ages 5 to 18, Aug. 22, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Proper documentation of a sports physical is required for all children who wish to play sports on base, in Bossier or Caddo parishes.

"Sports physicals are required to reveal any pre-existing conditions, such as allergies, and to make sure the child doesn't have any unsuspected injuries," said Master Sgt. Timika Hall, 2nd MDG flight chief of clinical medicine.

Hall also provides advice to parents.

"If you think your child may play a sport later on in the year, it's recommended they have a sports physical done early. That way they have the paperwork on hand instead of scheduling an appointment later.

As patients wait for their appointment, they can also participate in the 2nd MDG's Fourth Annual Health Information Fair.

"Parents can walk the hallway with their children and learn valuable health information while waiting on their appointment or participate after their appointment," said Barbara Allen, 2nd MDG health benefits advisor. "We try to make this a fun, casual, and informative event. I'm very excited to promote the 2nd Medical Group and all the great services we provide; we have a great team."

The Health Information Fair is open to anyone with base access, whether or not they have a scheduled appointment.

To schedule a sports physical, contact the 2nd MDG at 456-6555.
