Members from Team Barksdale assembled here at Hoban Hall, anxiously awaiting the Global Strike Challenge trophy presentation, Oct. 21.

The GSC competition brings together eight Air Force Global Strike Command bases and pits them against each other in different events including: aircraft maintenance, precision bombing, intercontinental ballistic missile operations, helicopter operations, security forces operations and a culinary competition. Since its establishment in 2010, it has promoted esprit de corps, boosting Airmen's confidence by showcasing the abilities of their installations.

"The GSC has a long history and tradition. It is a part of our heritage dating back to Strategic Air Command," said Col. Brandon Parker, 2nd Bomb Wing vice commander. "The competitions started in 1948 with the first bombing competition, then in 1958 with the first munitions loading competition and again in 1967 with the ICBM competition. Now, we do it all together. Our wing pitted against every other wing in AFGSC so we could see who is best."

In the final tally Team Barksdale was named best in five categories:

· Linebacker Trophy (Best B-52 Stratofortress squadron) was presented to the 20th Bomb Squadron

· Best Security Forces M203 Shooter was presented to the 2nd Security Forces Squadron

· Best Security Forces Firing Team was presented to the 2nd Bomb Wing

· Best Bomber Conventional Load Team was presented to the 2nd Bomb Wing

· Best Bomber Conventional Aircraft Crew Chief Team was presented to the 2nd Bomb Wing

"The heritage and history of the competition motivated everyone who came to the event," said Capt. Dustin Faircloth, 2nd Operations Support Squadron instructor pilot. "It was a great display of all the hard work our Airmen do in support of the mission. This event showcases every aspect of what we do in AFGSC. It was a great opportunity to be part of it."
