Bossier City Native Takes Command of 2nd Bomb Wing Published July 28, 2025 By Senior Airman Nicole Ledbetter 2nd Bomb Wing Public Affairs BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. -- A Northwest Louisiana native became the commander of the Air Force's largest bomb wing during a ceremony today. Col. Christopher Cain took command of the 2nd Bomb Wing during a change of command ceremony at Barksdale Air Force Base, succeeding Col. Michael D. Maginness, who is retiring after 22 years of service. The ceremony was officiated by Maj. Gen. Jason R. Armagost, commander of Eighth Air Force and the Joint-Global Strike Operations Center. Cain, who recently served as the deputy inspector general for Air Force Global Strike Command, returns to lead the same wing that once sparked his inspiration to serve. “It’s an incredible honor to lead the men and women of the 2nd Bomb Wing,” said Cain. “I grew up right here in Bossier. I felt the rumble of the BUFF while sitting in English class at Airline High School, so returning home to serve alongside the finest Airmen in our Air Force is deeply meaningful to me and my family.” Cain emphasized the human element of the mission, recognizing both the Airmen who generate combat power and the community that supports them. “Our Airmen are the heart of this wing and part of the fabric of this community,” said Cain. “I’m committed to supporting them and their families as we continue to provide long-range strike to our nation from the great state of Louisiana, like the Mighty Deuce has always done.” As the 67th commander of the 2nd Bomb Wing, Cain now leads the unit responsible for training all B-52 aircrew and providing credible B-52 combat capability to combatant commanders worldwide.
