Barksdale's Base Exchange has added a new food option for its patrons.

Cindy's Korean Kitchen is now open to serve hot food and cold drinks. The kitchen is located in front of the base exchange and open Monday thru Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and closed Sunday.

Cindy's serves traditional Korean dishes including some of the popular items such as beef bulgolgi, yaki-mandu and kim-chi. Soft drinks, water and hot and cold tea are also on the menu.

"Off base vendors give Airmen and the Barksdale community extra choices and something new," said David Webb, Barksdale Army and Air Force Exchange Service business manager. "Cindy's Korean Kitchen also brings some of the good food Airmen ate overseas to their doorstep."

Mr. Webb remains optimistic about the new vendor, which will undergo a test run for 90 days. If interest is high, it will remain open for business.

"I've been stationed in Korea twice, and the main thing I miss besides the camaraderie is the food," said Tech Sgt. Jerome Baysmore, 2d Bomb Wing Public Affairs. "I was really excited to hear that they are bringing the Korean Kitchen to Barksdale."

"I've eaten it about every day," Mr. Webb said. "It reminds me of when I was in Korea. It's excellent."

The idea for Cindy's Kitchen was placed on Mr. Webb's desk in November 2008. The proceeds bolster AAFES morale, welfare and recreation programs to fund different vendors and customer options.

"The vendors are the only obstacle we have," said Mr. Webb. "We can set up things for them to come on base, but if they do not want to support us then we cannot support them."
