More than 30 active duty members and civilians attended a talent show sponsored by Barksdale's First Four Airman's Association April 24 at the Stripes Lounge.

There were seven acts during the event, including dancing, singing and comedic performances. First, second and third place prizes were awarded to the top three acts of the night.

According to the 2d Dental Squadron's Senior Airman Aza Pierce, F4AA secretary, the event was held to boost the morale of Barksdale Airmen.

"The talent show gave Airmen a place to go on the weekend," said Airman Pierce. "Airmen don't have to stay in their rooms or go out partying all weekend. They can stay on base and still have a good time."

One Airman felt the competition served as a good way for people to bring their special talents into the spotlight.

"I thought the talent show was good," said participant Senior Airman Alton Mercy, 2d Aerospace Medical Squadron deployment medicine. "People came out and showed a different side (of their self) that most people didn't know about -- singing, rapping and dancing abilities. I think this show was a lot better than last year and hopefully it will continue to get better every year."

Airman Mercy was one half of the Jabbawockeez dance team that competed in the talent show. Although he and his partner, the 2d Maintenance Squadron's Airman 1st Class John Denman, did not place in the top three, still, Airman Mercy said he "had fun performing and enjoyed having some fun and putting on a show."

Barksdale members were not the only entertainment of the night. Stand-up comedian Rob Jenkins was on hand to keep the crowd amused after all talent show competitors had performed.

The event proved successful as spectators applauded the efforts of both the participants and the hosts.

"I felt that the talent show went very well," said Senior Airman Anya Roberts, 2d Force Support Squadron. "Although there could only be a first, second and third place winner, everyone did so well. I also felt that a lot of people came out to show support and the turn-out was a success."

Airmen are invited to the Stripes Lounge at 9 p.m. every Friday for karaoke night. For more information or a list of upcoming F4AA events, contact Airman Pierce at 456-4018.
