Team 56 honor Barksdale's newest Staff Sergeants

BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. --  Every year following the release of staff sergeant testing results, Team 56 throws a staff sergeant promotion party for the Airmen that made the cutoff. 

"The purpose of having the staff sergeant promotion party is to show our appreciation for the efforts that the people who tested and made the rank," Staff Sgt. Kevin Hopp, president of Team 56. 

The future staff sergeants appreciate the efforts Team 56 puts into the event. 

"I came tonight since I made staff," said Senior Airman Chonte Walker, 2d Civil Engineer Squadron. "I think it's a really good thing to recognize those who went above and beyond and made the next rank." 

Everyone was invited to come out and support the staff sergeant selectees. 

"It's an informal, social party," said Sergeant Hopp. "It gives a chance for supervisors, fellow Airmen and friends to come out and congratulate them." 

"I wanted to just celebrate," said Senior Airman David Jordan, 2d Civil Engineer Squadron. "I get to meet all the people that made the rank and it's good for the base to come together and show support for everybody who made staff." 

Staff sergeant selects who attended the event were encouraged to donate $20 to the Team 56 fund. 

"The money we had them pay is just to support the party," said Sergeant Hopp. "We are a non-profit organization so all the money we use to put these events on is raised through fundraisers." 

Team 56 enlisted the help of first sergeants to help promote the party. 

"After the results come out the first sergeants go around their squadrons and congratulate all those that made it and remind them about the upcoming party," said Sergeant Hopp. 

Team 56 looks to make next year's staff sergeant promotion party even bigger.
