NSI officials deem 2d Bomb Wing on target

BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. --  The 2d Bomb Wing proficiently completed a no-notice Nuclear Surety Inspection Jan. 13 and has proven once again that Barksdale is "on target."

An NSI is designed to evaluate a unit's ability to execute nuclear operations in a safe, secure and reliable manner. Since Jan. 6, Air Force officials conducted a performance-oriented evaluation of nuclear security and provided feedback on possible unit vulnerabilities and weaknesses in facilities, training, equipment, tactics, techniques and procedures in accordance with Air Force Instruction 90-201.

Gen. Will Fraser, Air Combat Command commander, recognized the tremendous effort Barksdale Airmen have put forth during recent inspections, noting that their success was, "the result of the non-stop professionalism and enthusiasm that is indicative of the 2d Bomb Wing."

"We've asked a lot of you and you continue to not only deliver but to shine."

Air Force leadership hold Airmen who perform duties associated with critical equipment to the highest standard, making these inspections an integral part of the Air Force's mission.

Twenty-six individuals and 23 teams were recognized as superior performers during the inspection.

Col. Steven Basham, 2d Bomb Wing commander, is proud of his Airmen's accomplishments.

"Congratulations on another extremely successful inspection," Colonel Basham said. "Today we received the same exceptional praise for our professionalism, mission readiness, and ability to overcome any obstacle. I do not say it enough, but it is my honor and pleasure to serve with each of you."

"Barksdale Airmen are definitely a force to be reckoned with -- in fact it's clear why 'The 2d Bomb Wing is Second to None!'" General Fraser said.
