Barksdale Air Force Base's chapel team has created a program towards single Airmen living in the dorms, but is open to anyone.

The River's Edge program offers a wide range of activities such as video game tournaments, a music room with various instruments, food and drinks, free wireless Internet and more.

"This is a place where Airmen can relax and build healthy, strong relationships as well as engage in activities helping develop young men and women into leaders," said Chaplain (Capt.) John Ritter, The River's Edge supervisor. "It is designed to extend our wingman culture under the Air Force Global Strike Command, and develop natural peer accountability, which reinforces the values of our Air Force."

The River's Edge had its grand opening Oct. 30, 2008. Originally, it was housed at the annex of Chapel 2 in a couple of converted class rooms on the first floor. At that location, it could only hold about 10-12 people. In the spring of 2009, the chapel was given the current location for the program near the medical clinic, building 4546.

The River's Edge is held from 6-10 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 6 to midnight on Fridays.

On Thursday's from 6-7 p.m., the chapel holds "Spiritual Conversations," which focus on asking and talking about faith and religion, Chaplain Ritter said. Videos and books are used to help Airmen with the different situations they may come across either on or off the job.

"We are also putting together some events to get Airmen involved in the community such working at soup kitchens during the holidays and events around the base," Chaplain Ritter said.
