Mary Davis 2nd Bomb Wing Public Affairs BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. -- Members of the 2nd Bomb Wing showcased their professionalism, expertise and pride Oct. 12-14 during a no-notice Limited Nuclear Surety Inspection that focused on several areas of the wing's strategic deterrence mission. Air Force Global Strike Command inspectors, accompanied by observers from the Air Force Inspection Agency and U.S. Strategic Command, evaluated areas of maintenance and security during the assessment. Collectively, the wing received the highest rating of "satisfactory." Limited nuclear surety inspections are extremely detailed and demand the highest standards of compliance and accountability, officials have said. Col. Scott Hoover, 2nd Mission Support Group commander, said the team is judged by how it enables the missions of others. He said he is proud of the security forces Airmen, the Wing's emergency responders, the logistics readiness squadron and Personal Reliability Program professionals. "Truly on the backs of our NCOs and airmen, our wing succeeded in this tough inspection--one of many challenges they faced throughout the year," Colonel Hoover said. "I am humbled and proud to serve with our Airmen." Members of the 2nd Maintenance Group also demonstrated their professional skills, which contributed to the overall success, wing officials said. "I am extremely proud of the professionalism and technical expertise demonstrated by our maintainers, especially the load crew tasked to perform the technical operation for the IG team," said Col. Charles Johnson, 2nd Maintenance Group commander. "It takes the entire maintenance team working together to set the load team up for success. Our maintenance team did a great job and the load crew did very well under pressure." Col. Timothy Fay, 2 BW commander, applauded Team Barksdale for their superior performance and commitment to excellence. "The awesome Airmen of the Mighty Deuce once again demonstrated their outstanding professionalism, performance and pride. No one does the strategic deterrence mission better than this great 2nd Bomb Wing - these Airmen are truly 'Second to None,'" the commander said. Air Force Inspection Agency members came to Barksdale from Kirtland AFB, N.M. U.S. Strategic Command inspectors are headquartered at Offutt AFB, Neb.
