'Best of the Best' Bomber and Missile Wings earn top honors in competition Published Nov. 18, 2010 Air Force Global Strike Command Public Affairs BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. -- A spirited crowd of hundreds of cheering Airmen whooped and hollered in celebration late into Wednesday evening as Air Force Global Strike Command announced the overall winners of the first-ever Global Strike Challenge. With the Under Secretary of the Air Force, Ms Erin Conaton, and commanders of two major commands looking on, the revelers capped the monthslong bomber, missile and security forces competition with trophy presentations honoring historical events and leaders. The host, Air Force Global Strike commander Lt. Gen. Frank Klotz, was also joined by Air Combat Command commander Gen. William M. Fraser III, 8th Air Force commander Maj. Gen. Floyd Carpenter, 20th Air Force commander Maj. Gen. C. Donald Alston, command chiefs, industry leaders, community leaders and past winners for the culminating event at historic Hoban Hall here, Nov. 17. Bomber, missile and security forces were recognized in the first-ever Global Strike Challenge for superior technical and weapons system expertise in the following award categories: Fairchild Trophy for Best Bomb Wing: 509th Bomb Wing, Whiteman AFB, Mo. Blanchard Trophy for Best ICBM Wing: 90th Missile Wing, FE Warren AFB, Wyo. Ellis Giant Sword Trophy for Best Bomber Maintenance: 7th Bomb Wing, Dyess AFB, Texas. Charlie Fire Team Trophy for Best Security Forces: 509 BW, Whiteman AFB Best ICBM Operations Trophy: 90 MW, FE Warren AFB Blackburn Trophy for Best ICBM Maintenance Trophy: 90 MW, FE Warren AFB Best Bomber Nuclear Load Team Trophy: 5th Bomb Wing, Minot AFB, N.D.
