Members of the 2nd Bomb Wing recently won Air Force-level and Air Force Global Strike Command safety awards.

The 2 BW won the Flight Safety award and the Colombian trophy. These awards focus on flight safety, achievements and contributions performed by the squadron. Barksdale's 2nd Security Forces Squadron garnered the Air Force Ground Safety award, and the 2 BW Safety Flight received the AFGSC Flight Safety Excellence Award.

Each award has a different selection criteria and recognizes both individuals and organizations for superior performance, outstanding safety acts and achievements. The wing received 11 awards; 4 unit awards and 7 personnel awards.

Capt. Curtis Zoss, 2nd Operations Support Squadron emergency war order training officer, received the Air Force Nuclear Surety Outstanding Achievement Award. Capt. Bryan Walter, 96th Bomb Squadron radar navigator, received the AFGSC Additional Duty Safety Professional of the Year. Tech. Sgt. Brian Rice, 2 BW weapons safety manager, received the AFGSC Weapons Safety Professional of the Year. Tech. Sgt. Scott Campbell, 2nd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron alternate duty weapons safety manager, received the AFGSC Award of Distinction for Weapons Safety. Ms. Maxine Whitten, 2nd Medical Group facility operations manager, received the Air Force Chief of Safety Medical Achievement Award. Mr. Richard Knowles, 2 BW deputy chief, wing and ground safety manager, received the Chief of Staff Individual Safety Award. The crew of Skull 41, 20th Bomb Squadron, received the Air Force Chief of Safety Aircrew of Distinction Award.

"The 2 BW has an outstanding safety office with talented professionals who provide leadership and management to the wing commander's safety program," said Lt. Col. John Edwards, 2 BW chief of safety. "I am very proud of the hard work all of the winners display."

These awards were based on performance and impact to the wing's mission. Nominee entries were reviewed by a board of AFGSC safety professionals from the safety disciplines of flight, ground, human factor, and weapons safety. Each package was graded against other nominees from other bases. They competed at the numbered Air Force level, major command and Air Force levels.

"Winning this award means a lot to me," said Tech. Sgt. Scott Campbell, 2 AMXS alternate duty weapons safety manager. "It's a big morale boost when your hard work and dedication is recognized."

Good luck to the 2 BW safety office as they compete at the next level.
