Medical units from each Air Force Global Strike Command base nominates medical professionals, units, flights, teams and groups annually for MAJCOM - level awards for outstanding achievement.

This year was the first ever AFGSC Medical Service award and the 2nd Medical Group set the bar by receiving 29 awards; 4 team awards and 25 individual awards.

The awards recognize individuals and teams whose outstanding actions improve the delivery of health care and contribute to expeditionary medical operations for Air Force personnel worldwide. It also acknowledges sustained superior job performance, innovative operations, and exceptional teamwork.

"The Air Force Medical Service Awards Program is very important for recognizing our best," said Lt. Col Brenda Nelson, 2 MDG chief nurse. "It's never easy to single someone out for an accolade at this level, since there are so many outstanding people throughout the command."

Winners were first nominated by their individual unit supervisors. Each unit carried out its own selection process, then forwarded those winners to AFGSC, where a panel of medical functional experts review each nominee's package.

"The preparation was all in our attitude," stated Maj. Calvin Webb, 2 MDG logistics flight commander. "Every day we try to go out of our way to take care of our customers and we are always willing to do whatever it takes to make sure our clinical staff has the necessary supplies and equipment to take care of our patient population."

The Outstanding Medical Logistics Small Activity Account of the Year award was won by Major Webb and his team.

"This award is a great honor," stated Major Webb. "It recognizes a lot of hard work and dedication by everyone in our medical logistics section. Really in the end, it's just a matter of our leadership being captured on paper for this award."

Winners of AFGSC level awards will advance to the Air Force level and compete against other MAJCOM winners in each respective category.
