Kresge 2nd Bomb Wing Public Affairs BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. -- The 2nd Bomb Wing Annual Awards Banquet was held at Hoban Hall Feb. 11. "Heritage, Vision, Excellence!" was the theme of the event which highlighted the 2010 accomplishments of Barksdale Airmen. The evening began with a private medallion ceremony for all nominees and their guests, followed by dinner and a speech from the Honorable Lorenz Walker, Bossier City Mayor. The event culmination was the presentation of awards that were unveiled one-at-a-time from sealed envelopes carried by guards. The following individuals were named 2010 award recipients: Airman of the Year - Senior Airman Marthinus Taljaard, 2nd Medical Group Noncommissioned Officer of the Year - Staff Sgt. Kelley Kessler, 2nd Mission Support Group Senior Noncommissioned Officer of the Year - Senior Master Sgt. Todd Krulcik, 2nd Maintenance Group Company Grade Officer of the Year - Capt. Michael Pontius, 2nd Operations Group Category I up to GS 8 - Ms. Terri Campbell, 2nd Medical Group Category II GS 9 and above - Mr. Richard Knowles, 2nd Bomb Wing Staff Agencies Category III NAF 3 and above - Mr. William Duckworth, 2 MSG Category IV NAF 2 and below - Mr. Matthew Stinson, 2 MSG Volunteer of the Year - Mrs. Rachel Penwell, Barksdale Enlisted Spouses' Group Honor Guard Member of the Year - Senior Airman Cory Shaw, Barksdale Honor Guard Charlie Flight First Sergeant of the Year - Senior Master Sgt. Derrick Grames, 2 MXG In his closing remarks, Col. Tim Fay, 2 BW commander, addressed the award winners. "There are nearly 6,200 Airmen standing guard here at Barksdale AFB as part of the 2 BW, and of these nominees here tonight, these winners are absolutely the best of the best. Congratulations and well done." The winners will compete for awards at the Air Force Global Strike Command level.
