The program was developed to honor all veterans from every service and every war. Carroll Michaud, a member of the Veteran's Memorial Steering Committee, gave Team Barksdale the opportunity to carry the flags as part of the event. Team 56 members and Team Barksdale carried flags including those of individual states in the U.S., different branches of service, and prisoner-of-war and missing-in-action flags. Guest speaker for the event was retired Army Maj. Ronald Chatelain. Chatelain is the highest decorated veteran from the Vietnam War, and he is Louisiana's most decorated living combat veteran. Purple Heart recipient, Airman 1st Class Bryenna Brooks was also in attendance. She held the Purple Heart flag throughout the event. The Shreveport and Bossier City fire departments attended the event, as well as Veterans of Foreign Wars honorary members, local service members, and choir and Reserve Officers' Training Corps members from Southwood High School. The event provided veterans the opportunity to tell stories and reminisce about their past experiences. It was an opportunity for Team Barksdale to show thanks to those who have served before.
