Team Barksdale members are no strangers to hard work. That's why receiving a Wing Goal Day Feb. 27 is a much deserved reward for a job well done.

"This day gives Airmen an incentive to go out and meet the goals required by Air Force standards," said Staff Sgt. Cassie Wasaki, Plans and Programs and 2nd Bomb Wing Goal Day coordinator.

This occasion awards the whole base a day off when these goals are accomplished. It is based on aircraft mission capable rate, sortie production, flying hour production, medical readiness and physical fitness tests. The 2 BW is responsible for the physical portion, but maintenance crews do the rest.

"The percentage of people without profiles needs to be higher than 95 percent across the wing. It's a whole wing effort," said Wasaki.

Maintenance crews most important commodity is time, but the mission comes first. They have to achieve their goals with deadlines, but make sure to do it safely and properly.

"That whole feeling of being part of something that's more than yourself," said Senior Airman Daniel Gossett, 96th Bomb Squadron communication navigation specialist. "The mentality that we have a very important job and we know doing it right and doing it safely is more important than doing it fast or making ourselves look good to get rewards."

Wing commanders use Goal Days to recognize Airmen for their hard work and give them a long weekend as a reward, to give them a little more incentive to get something positive in return.

"Those are awesome perks, but not the main goal," said Gossett. "It is more of an incentive for knowing what we have to do and doing it."
