Liechti 2nd Bomb Wing Public Affairs BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. -- Those interested in attending the Barksdale Officers' Spouses' Club 3rd Annual Spring Auction, scheduled for May 12, can now purchase tickets for the event. The auction cost is $13 per person and the event begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Barksdale Club. Attendees will be provided an evening of friendly competition and a menu of heavy hors' dourves complete with mini beef Wellington, chicken cordon bleu, caprese salad and more. Proceeds earned from the auction will be donated to various organizations, including the BOSC scholarship fund and groups within the Barksdale and Shreveport/Bossier community. "This year the Barksdale Officers' Spouses' Club has already made great strides in its charitable contributions, supporting Barksdale Air Force Base organizations like River's Edge and Airmen Against Drunk Driving," said Katie Lund, BOSC president . "Our Spring Auction will allow us to expand our reach to additional base organizations, as well as community and national organizations." The BOSC tries to focus its charitable endeavors on Airmen and their families. "We also recognize the generous level of support we receive from the Shreveport/Bossier community," Lund said. "It's important to us that we give back to them as well." According to Laura Hoover, BOSC member and marketing chair for the event, the BOSC plans to allocate some of the charitable funds to its scholarship program, which is now in its second year. The program currently awards up to $1,000 in scholarships to dependent children and non-military spouses. "This year, through the charitable funds raised from our auction efforts, we hope to increase the amount of scholarships we can offer to these hard-working individuals," Hoover said. Those interested in attending the auction and helping the BOSC achieve its goals can expect to see a variety of items at the event. "The auction will consist of both a live and silent portion, featuring fine jewelry, artwork, spa packages, trips and plenty more, including some one-of-a-kind items that you won't want to miss," Lund said. "Last year's fundraising efforts allowed the BOSC to contribute almost $9,000 toward charitable endeavors. This year, we're hoping to exceed that amount. The auction committee has been working very hard to recruit items and make the auction evening one of the best yet." Lund is grateful for the hard-working auction committee members who have spent countless hours planning and implementing this year's event. "We decided to deviate from the previous year's format and make the auction a stand-alone evening event," Lund said. "The BOSC members who have dedicated numerous volunteer hours to this effort are the reason this auction will be a success. We're really looking forward to a great evening and are delighted to be sharing it with our Barksdale and community leaders." Timing for the auction is perfect as Mother's Day is the following Sunday, Hoover added. "The auction will be a great place to snag mom a gift she'll love while supporting a wonderful cause," she said. "We hope you'll join us." The event is open to everyone.
