Barksdale Airmen to enjoy free food Published May 15, 2012 By Airman 1st Class Andrew Moua 2nd Bomb Wing Public Affairs BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. -- Barksdale Airmen, E-4 and below, are invited to attend a free barbeque May 19 to celebrate the start of summer. In addition to free food, the event will include an obstacle course, slip n' slide and dunk tank, beginning at 11 a.m. between the Bolo and Hercules dorms. The First Sergeant's Council, Air Force Sergeant's Association Chapter 615 Airman's Council, Medical Group Top 3, 2nd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron and many others contributed time and money to ensure the Airmen could enjoy the event free of charge. "We expect to have about 300 Airmen attending," said Julia Langston, 2nd Bomb Wing Command Post. "We figured a free lunch would be the best way to celebrate the arrival of summer with our fellow wingmen." According to Master Sgt. David Bedner, 2nd Medical Group first sergeant, the idea to hold this event came from Staff Sgt. Christopher Hearst, 2 MDG. "He felt the Airmen and their efforts were not appreciated enough, and that the best thing to do for them was to throw a barbeque to help boost morale, confidence and self-worth," Bedner said. Airmen who are unable to attend the event will have numerous opportunities to participate in other activities coordinated by the AFSA. "The AFSA has planned movie nights, picnics and other events throughout the year to bring Airmen together," said Langston. "The AFSA is dedicated to helping the enlisted Air Force, Air National Guard, Air Force Reserve and retirees." Airmen unable to attend the barbeque should keep their eyes peeled for a pool party in June, said Langston.
