MilPDS upgrade fast approaching

BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. --  The Military Personnel Data System upgrade that was originally slated for December 2012 will now take place in March 2013.

The MilPDS system affects many areas of the military community ranging from duty assignments, retirements, re-enlistments, separations and more. The upgrade is expected to take approximately 23 days and the MilPDS system will be down during this time.

While the system upgrade is being done, personnel who need to change or submit retirements/re-enlistment paperwork or other personnel actions need to ensure they meet the deadlines to their local Military Personnel Sections.

"We are working with the first sergeants and squadrons to get the information out so that anyone who will be affected during the downtime can re-enlist, retire or get anything else done that our customers need," said 2nd Lt. Brittany Hicks, 2nd Force Support Squadron military personnel section chief. "We are trying to help make sure that the MilPDS downtime is as smooth as possible for our people at Barksdale."

Air Force officials will release additional information and guidance to the Air Force's manpower, personnel, services and pay communities and total force Airmen to explain how the service will perform personnel and pay tasks during the upgrade and scheduled system outage.

According to information released on the Air Force Portal, the following personnel programs will be affected: Base-of Preference applications, promotions, re-enlistment/extension, officer Mandatory Separation Date (MSD) extension, voluntary retirement, changing your effective date or withdrawing your approved retirement application, voluntary separation and discharge or resignation application processing.

Deadlines to 2nd FSS:
Schedule OPI test for Foreign Language Proficiency Bonus - Jan. 31
Apply for reenlistment, extension or separation - Feb. 15
Schedule DLPT for Foreign Language Proficiency Bonus - Feb. 15
Update SGLI - Feb. 15
Deadlines to Air Force Personnel Center:
Complete a Base of Preference application - Feb. 1
Complete an In-Place Base of Preference application - Feb. 1
Apply for voluntary retraining - Feb. 15
Update SGLI - Feb. 15
