BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. -- Barksdale Air Force Office of Special Investigations Detachment 219, was selected as the AFOSI Large Detachment of the Year.
Although the Det has won the award for its region before, this is the first time that the Det won the AFOSI award.

"They performed throughout the year at a level of sustained excellence," said Special Agent Bill Messina, Det 219 Special Agent in-charge . "In an organization that exists to defend the nation, serve justice, protect the integrity of the Air Force, and find truth, they stood out and have set the bar high for 2013."

Even with more than 25 percent of the Det deployed at one time, OSI professionals made accomplishments which included:
  • First Det in AFOSI command to use cyber preview tools in the field which allowed agents to conduct operations to neutralize the child exploitation of active duty dependents.
  • Scored an "Excellent" rating on the 2012 Consolidated Unit Inspection.
  • 100 percent success rate on 2012's sexual assault cases.
  • Awarded five Region 2 quarterly performance awards.
  • Briefed more than 300 Barksdale Airmen traveling overseas on vacation or downrange on security threats of that location or region they will be traveling to.
"Each member of the team brings a skill set and specialty to round out our capability to respond to any situation with professionalism," said Messina. "Without this team and the support of the family members we could not have earned this award."
