Back to School with School of Choice Published July 28, 2017 By Airman 1st Class Sydney Bennett 2nd Bomb Wing Public Affairs BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. -- The 2nd Force Support Squadron hosted a Back to School Night at the BUFF Event Center at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana, July 24, 2017. Military families can now choose which school to send their children to with the School of Choice initiative, giving Barksdale residents more options when deciding which type of education best fits the needs of their children. There were booths from schools in the local area at the event. Each booth had a school official and handouts with information about the school. Local school administrators were present to answer questions and discuss the process to get the initiative approved. “A year ago I met with Col. Neuman to discuss the possibilities for military children,” said Scott Smith, Bossier City School District’s superintendent. “I must say, I have never met a commander who cares so much about education.” The event hosted more than 300 military members and over 110 school administrators in attendance.
