After eight months of renovations and improvements, the Red River Dining Facility reopened to all personnel Feb. 2.

The long-awaited re-opening was met with scores of people who were hungry for the familiar taste, healthy options and quality food served at the dining facility.

“I am so happy that the dining facility is open again,” said Airman 1st Class Jesse Gonzalez, 26th Operational Weather Squadron weather forecaster. “There is a huge variety here. I feel like I can come here every day and get something different. You can literally have anything you want.”

Gonzalez also mentioned that he appreciated how the food at the dining facility is not only healthy, but his favorite dining option on base.

Dining facility guests aren’t the only ones who are happy about the DFAC reopening; 2nd Force Support Squadron cooks are also happy to be back and to have an upgraded kitchen at their disposal.

“It’s been a long break and it’s good to be back,” said Senior Airman Jillian Sullivan, 2nd FSS services specialist.

The upgrades made to the kitchen are instrumental in allowing dining facility staff to produce quality food quicker which means Airmen can spend more time relaxing during their lunch break.

“With the new ovens, we can be a lot more efficient,” said Sullivan. “Before we got the new induction burners, everybody was crammed in the back, now the customers can see us cook, and we can also get their food to them much quicker.”

The dining facility closure has been a disappointment to some of the base population, however, the improvements are invaluable in allowing 2nd FSS Airmen to continue to serve quality food with efficient service. The importance of the dining facility and the role it plays in the Barksdale mission cannot be understated. The feelings and importance of its role is summarized best by Gonzalez’s parting quote.

“I hope this never goes away again. This DFAC is awesome!”
