The Air Force Personnel Center fitness and sports team has partnered with The Pentagon Channel to create the Fit for Duty initiative, which is currently being implemented at fitness centers Air Force-wide.

Fit for Duty is a fitness program geared toward Airmen and their families that provides additional tools to promote and maintain their fitness standards.

"These new programs are geared for Airmen and their family members at all levels of fitness, from those just starting a fitness regimen to those looking for higher intensity workouts, and provide additional tools to promote and maintain Air Force fitness," said Col. Thomas Joyce, Air Force Personnel Center director of services states in a memo to AF personnel and services groups.

The fitness program offers users combined core exercise routines to give patrons a total body workout.

"It's like having your own personal trainer," said Tech Sgt. Michael Thomas, 2nd Force Support Squadron NCO in charge of fitness and sports special programs. "They've produced 20 videos that focus on core exercises, aerobics, arms, back, chest, shoulders and legs. This gives [Airmen] something to build stronger, leaner, faster bodies in one workout, instead of just concentrating on one exercise a day."

Fit for Duty takes viewers through a 30-minute workout led by service members with expertise in fitness training.

Squadrons already have their own physical training routines at the fitness center, and many times Airmen work out by themselves. Thomas hopes Fit for Duty will bring Airmen together.

"This [program] can give those squadrons a set routine they can work out with, have fun and then go back to their jobs," said Thomas. "Working out relieves stress and clears the mind. This is a great way to for Airmen to do this together. Don't be afraid to check it out."

The program is set to expand with DVDs and Fitness on Request kiosk support soon, giving Airmen have a new way to maintain their fitness resiliency.
