Editor's Note: This is part three of a three-part series on New Year, New You at Barksdale.

The Senior Airman Bryan R. Bell Fitness Center has added numerous classes to compliment the New Year, New You theme.

In January, the fitness center kicked off the theme with a New Year's Resolution 5K run, and the Barksdale Health and Wellness Center created a fitness challenge.

"I created the New Year, New You challenge in lieu of last year's Beat the Bird challenge that we were unable to host at the time," said Leah Beckham, HAWC health and fitness specialist.

Although the challenge is already closed for registration, the HAWC and fitness center encourage all Barksdale Airmen and families to utilize the new classes that have been added to the roster.

The HAWC is hosting Push-Up and Core Improvement, BLAST, Cardio core Crunch and Body Blitz. All of the classes are free and offered throughout the week.

In addition to the classes already offered at the fitness center, they also added a popular total-body workout in January and a popular dance workout that will begin this month.

"The fitness center staff and all of our instructors are dedicated to ensuring that the men and women of team Barksdale are provided the best possible opportunities to improve their fitness," said Master Sgt. Tamala Williams, Bell Fitness Center NCO in-charge of fitness and sports.

Classes focus on everything from increasing endurance, core, upper and lower body strength, balance and flexibility, your body's ability to burn fat, stress relief and more, she added.

"For those that would like more personalized attention, we have three certified personal trainers available for a fee," said Williams.

There is a small fee for some of the classes, but for those who qualify, the Play-Pass can be used toward many of the programs and training offered as well.

The fitness center staff can also provide fitness assessments free of charge. They calculate a member's current fitness level through a series of physical tests and develop an improvement program to suit individual needs.

For more information on any of the new classes offered, contact the fitness center at 456-4135 or the HAWC at 456-6399.
